Desktop Linux: fd.o, Platforms, Oh My!
Seminar
This talk will cover many aspects of Linux on the desktop, particularly related to freedesktop.org; including, but not limited to:
- Observations on X, or, changing the fundamental idea, build system, and layout, of an 18-year old monolith.
- A discussion of the freedesktop.org Platform -- including the practical aspects of getting all comers involved, and a look at where it's going; including the challenges involved with hosting a single, unified, platform with major choices to make.
- Handwaving on where freedesktop.org is going in the future, and observations on where it's come already.
Daniel Stone
While he isn't off saving the world, Daniel can usually be found making X more modular, doing random fd.o administration, or trying to release a platform. He has far too many email addresses, but always welcomes more domains.
