What does AJAX and GroupDAV mean for web based FOSS Groupware?
A quick google search for '"open source" groupware' returns over 1.3 million entries, with 7 of the top 10 web based. A few years ago web based groupware seemed to be the next big thing, then it sort of fizzled a little. More recently there have been some changes bubbling away in web based groupware and browser based application development. Two technologies which can potentially change the way groupware is viewed and used are GroupDAV and AJAX. While on the surface these two technologies seem to have no relationship, this seminar will explore how they are playing important roles in furthering web based groupware solutions and improving the experience for groupware users (and developers). Although most of my experience has been in developing phpGroupWare and the AJAX mail client communik8r (http://communik8r.org), I will also be looking at what other projects are up to and where I see things heading in the future.
For the last few years I have been running my own business as a FOSS focused IT Consultant. For the last 2 years I have been the API Coordinator for phpGroupWare, a web based groupware suite. I will one day get around to finishing my GradDip IT (Internet Software Dev) at Swinburne University.
