Partners Programme

Whether you are visiting Sydney or live here, you'll know that Sydney is an exciting city with an endless amount of attractions and things to do. Thank you for all the feedback on our suggestions for the partners programme thus far, and we'd love feedback about the proposed schedule below.

We have devised a plan to focus on destinations and their surroundings for a day. For example, attractions like the Aquarium, Chinese Gardens, Paddy's Markets and the Powerhouse Museum around Darling Harbour for a day. We have provided some children's activities, as well as babysitting for certain events where parents wish to take up the offer. Please make sure you put down the number of children into the registration page for your conference attendee. It's your choice, and the organisers of linux.conf.au 2007 want to ensure you have a fun and relaxing time while your geek is doing their thing!

Monday 15th

A relaxing introduction to Sydney and the rest of the partners, we'll be picking everyone up from UNSW about 10am to have a BBQ lunch and tour around Centennial park. We'll be providing food including salad, breads, meat and drinks, so please let us know any specific dietary requirements. Available activities include cycling, a playground, walking around the scenic park and golf. We get back in the afternoon in time for the speakers dinner where kids are welcome.

Tuesday 16th

Sydney is a great city for shopping, and what better way to find the bargains than a Pink Bus Shopping Spree! Lunch is included in this busy day finding factory outlets with up to 50% discounts. Visited places include: fashion, shoes, handbags, perfume and toiletries, swimwear, sportswear, lingerie, children's wear, manchester and more. There will be a party at linux.conf.au in the evening including live music and babysitting will be available for parents who request it.

Wednesday 17th

Taronga Zoo is a great place for adults and kids to meet animals from all around the world, including our very own kangaroos, koalas and platypus'. There are zoo tours, cafes, loads of shows, and we'll be getting there by taking the ferry from Circular Quay which goes directly past Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Opera house, and is a beautiful trip. In the evening is the Professional Delegates Networking Session at linux.conf.au and babysitting is available for parents that request it.

Thursday 18th

What is a trip to Sydney in the summer without a Beach Day! We'll be leaving the UNSW in the morning and taking the 370 bus from Gate 2 on High St at the University of New South Wales (so if you want to go earlier or later, you can). Then we have a great day splashing and sunbathing at picturesque Coogee Beach. Coogee isn't as famous as Bondi Beach, but is less crowded, has far better food (some of the best fish and chips in Australia) and is just as beautiful!

Friday 19th

Friday we'll have a fairly action packed day around Darling Harbour visiting the Sydney Aquarium, Chinese Gardens and whatever else strikes our fancy :) There is lots of great food and also loads of activities for kids and adults alike.

Price

Includes all entry fees, transport (apart from Thursday's optional event). Only includes food or drinks where explicitly stated.

  • Adults: $200 (inc GST)
  • Children: $100 (inc GST)

Contact

Contact the team for any details about the Partners Programme. We will get all partners to join a mailing list for more information when they sign up. You may also call Sara on +61 416 456 846 (internationally) or 0416 456 846 (in Australia).

Enrol for the partners programme through your partners linux.conf.au registration, and leave the rest to us! Feel free to send a special request or suggestion for anything not listed here. We can't cover everything, but we'll make sure you have a great week!

We are planning to have child care available for certain activities (such as the Penguin Dinner), so please contact us if this option would be of interest to you.
