Travelling to Canberra

It will be Autumn in the southern hemisphere in April. The average temperature range is from a maximum of 20C / 68F down to a minimum of 6C / 43F at night. Actual weather may vary.

Canberra's timezone is GMT+10 hours. When it is morning in Canberra, it is afternoon or evening in America. When it is evening here, it is morning in western Europe.

To find out the current time in Canberra, type TZ=Australia/Canberra date. At this instant it is 10:07 on 19 September 2005.

The Australian electricity supply is 240V at 50Hz, using a plug specific to Australia and New Zealand. Most overseas travelers will need power plug adapters, available at airports.

Telephones use RJ-11 jacks. We expect to have wired and wireless internet access at the conference. Internet access may be available at the conference hotels.

Australian mobile phone networks use GSM and CDMA. Overseas phones will only work if they specifically support those standards. Rental phones are available at airports and pre-paid SIM cards are widely available.

You may need to obtain a visa to enter Australia for the conference. In many cases an electronic visa can be obtained through your travel agent or through the Electronic Travel Authority web site.
